Minimum system requirements for a telehealth video consultation

Our telehealth consultations are performed through browser-based software and therefore works on the majority of commonly owned devices such as laptops, desktops, iPhones or tablets.

Basic hardware setup

A webcam, speaker and microphone are the basic hardware requirements for a telehealth consultation, and most modern laptops are equipped with these inbuilt features. Some desktops may need additions such as a webcam.

Built-in speakers on desktop machines usually have a metallic sound and a limited dynamic range. Any external speakers, even rather inexpensive ones, are a better choice.

Internet connection

An Internet connection with at least 350 Kbps download and upload speeds. Check your Internet speed by using the Speed Test by Measurement Lab speed test tool.

Browsers

Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Safari 11+ are supported. iOS devices will need to use Safari 11+ and Android devices should use Google Chrome.

Operating system

Windows, MacOS, Android or iOS are supported, if they have not reached end-of-life support.

JavaScript

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser. This is enabled by default, but you'll receive a message if you need to enable it manually.

TCP ports 80 and 443

Sometimes anti-virus and firewall services will block these common internet ports. If you are having trouble connecting while on a workplace network, ask your IT team to check these settings.

Incompatibility

Amazon Kindle, e-readers and voice-controlled smart speakers such as Alexa or Google Assistant are incompatible.
